Hot toys for 2008

While there doesn’t seem to be the same kind of ‘craziness’ associated with holiday shopping yet (or will there be this year?), there are still some great toys  out this season as well as some honorable mentions.

Sims 3!

My daughter is a complete nut about the computer game SIMS…so needless to say she was COMPLETELY thrilled to see that there is a new SIMS game coming out (which of course means all of the SIMS 2 games won’t be compatible with the new games….). I actually saw there are two coming out- the game and some sort of deluxe game. I went into Best Buy today and the game is available for pre-order….which I’m considering (I’ve got a folder for my daughter’s Christmas list…she emails them to me…). She checked out the game online and said it looks SOOOO much better- you can actually walk around and see other people (the current version you can only see the family you’re creating? I should have her do this post!)

Guitar Hero- World Tour vs. Rockband 2

One thing that never seems to lack during the holiday season is the onlsaught of new video games or game players. Since there’s no new console out this year, the rush is on for the games. Rockband 2 has come out (but only for Playstation 3 and XBOX 360- the PS2 and Wii come out in January….the bundles anyways. The game is out this month), but so has the new Guitar Hero World tour- very similar to Rockband with the drums, mic and guitar. And it’s out for all the game consoles (at least for the Wii and XBOX 360…not sure about either Playstation).

So I asked the guy at GameStop last night about both bundles (he’s also the one who told me RockBand 2 won’t be out for the Wii until Jan.- although it was supposed to be this month). He said he definitely preferred Guitar Hero World Tour to RockBand2. The reason was that there were more songs (and they were better too). He also said the guitar in Guitar Hero is built better. But of course, they were out of the one for the Wii. I’ve decided to get this for my son for his birthday (Dec. 5th….fortunately he’s only going to be 8 and doesn’t read this). The store called the other store in town, but they didn’t have it- the nearest one was about 40 minutes away. I still have  few weeks- so we’ll see how it goes. I’m confident I’ll be able to find one (afterall, I did find the Wii last Christmas!).
